A few years ago, I was going through a difficult period and wanted to find a way to unravel traumatizing energies in a gentle and permanent way. Luckily, I found Peter Levine and his method of Somatic Experiencing (SE). After experiencing it myself, I enrolled in the comprehensive training program to become a Somatic Experiencing practitioner to expand my healing knowledge so that I can offer this valuable modality in my work with clients.
Somatic Experiencing is a method to release trauma energy. If we are exposed to an overwhelming or painful event, our nervous system needs to go through a cycle of different states to regain its balance again. When any part of this self-regulating cycle is interrupted, the charge of energy gets stuck in our body. We’re frozen and unable to move through our physical and emotional reactions to the traumatic event and release the energy. This blocked energy will likely be triggered in the future by anybody or anything that reminds us of this earlier experience. We go “scary stiff” or we collapse in overwhelm.
SE focuses on the uncompleted physical cycles and responses, and unfreezes – carefully and gradually – the stuck energies and the emotional reactions which are tied to it. What emerges is a renewed rhythm of alertness and resting in our system. We’re no longer scary stiff or overwhelmed. We feel fluid and vital.
While trauma is hell on earth, its resolution may be a gift from the gods.
~ Peter Levine
I’ve always been very interested in natural holistic healing systems, which strengthen the self regulation and healing power of the body. When I found the work of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann 35 years ago I was fascinated about classical Homeopathy and I began a deep and rigorous education training, years of assisting and later working in my own practice.
Homeopathy is an individual, holistic energetic therapy which specifically looks at the unique emotional, mental and physical symptoms and also takes into consideration personal biography, environment, lifestyle and health constitution. Following the principle “simile similibus curentur” – “let likes be cured by likes” – homeopathy provides a specific and individual treatment with minimal interference.
Only freedom from prejudice and tireless zeal avail for the most holy of the endeavours of mankind, the practice of the true art of healing
~ Samuel Hahnemann
Since I was young, I’ve been searching for answers to questions about my life and self:
"Who am I? ...Is there a self? ...What is my true nature?”
These questions burned inside and led me to all sorts of explorations – drugs, psychology, mysticism and most of all spiritual practices.
The teachings of the Indian sage Osho spoke to me the most directly and as a young women I traveled to India to find something… The next decades were filled with growth and heartache about how to integrate heart and soul, mundane life and spiritual attainment. I’ve been with many spiritual teachers and teachings, I lived in different ashrams and I’ve sat in groups and with students all over the world. A few years ago a consciousness-changing non-dual event left me with my questions in a different place than I had ever imagined: the stillness and depth of the Nondual does not erase the Self, the embodied Self is the spiritual Self.
Spirituality is not split from everyday life, it’s woven into who and what we are.
Sometimes its helpful to have somebody on your side who’s been on a spiritual inward and outward path and supports you through all kinds of difficulties, fears and uncertainties, someone who supports you to reconnect to your own inborn unique spiritual nature.
Be. Don’t try to become.
